App summary

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.

• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.

• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 40 people.

• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.

• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.

• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.

• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

Two things prevent this from being a 5 star app 1. Sometimes, messages take over 5 minutes to push through. 2. And the most annoying part, the bubble indicators randomly stop. I have an S23 Ultra. All notifications and the indicator are on as well as the person I'm texting also has it on, but for me, it comes in goes. Stays on for a week. Off for 3 weeks with no change in settings.

I've been using signal for years, but apparently the default is for the chat back up to be disabled, and there is no cloud. I tried to open the app on my tablet, but it signed me out on my phone without warning and without prompting for a sync, which then lost all of my message history. There is no way to get them back because signal doesn't save anything and unless you had the foresight to manually enable your backup, you'll never see those messages or pictures again. Thanks signal. You suck.

We need higher quality audio for recordings. It's currently, pretty bad. Devs, help? I adore this app but it's a distinct issue. I send a 30 sec audio recording of a song playing, it's hilariously poor quality. Not a deal breaker by any means. But something to consider. Thank you for everything that you guys do tho. 💚
