There were some server problems but this was fixed just after reporting it. The app may look a bit plain or even old school but I find it just as effective as more modern apps to learn a language to a basic degree.. This app is also very affordable. It offers a lot of languages and combinations that others don't. Also I find the option to record my pronunciation and rely on my own listening just as good if not better than letting an algorithm decide whether my pronunciation is good enough.
Just installed the app - the first thing I get is an error message: You denied permissions PERMANENTLY. So the app CANNOT WORK anymore. To use the app again go to Settings > Apps > STEPS in 50 languages > Storage > Clear Data. Then run the app again and give permissions. I never got the permissions prompt to begin with and even after clearing the apps data it doesn't work. My phone is on android standard settings and everything else works perfectly fine.
It's ok, but not great. The feedback is awkward and minimalist. Duolingo is good for kids. Speekoo (hate the name, love the app) is good for teens and adults. They both give great feedback. I felt like I could progress faster with Speekoo.
