App summary

Experience the magic of GPS audio walks, cycles, drives and even boat rides with VoiceMap's self-guided tours in over 400 destinations worldwide. They’re like podcasts that move with you, to tell stories about what you’re seeing right now.

VoiceMap tours are like podcasts that move with you, to tell stories about what you’re seeing right now. They're produced by insightful local storytellers, including journalists, filmmakers, novelists, podcasters, and tour guides. Sir Ian McKellen has even created a tour. It's around London's West End, where he’s performed for over 50 years.

Features:

• Explore at your own pace. Start and stop tours whenever you like, then use the resume option to pick up exactly where you left off.
• With GPS autoplay, you can focus on your surroundings, not the screen. Tap on Start, and let VoiceMap guide you.
• VoiceMap works offline. After you download a tour, the audio will be available offline along with an offline map.
• If you do go off in the wrong direction, VoiceMap plays an audio alert, and you can follow the map on your screen to the next location.
• Listen to tours as many times as you like both in the destination and in virtual tour mode at home.
• With over 1,300 free and paid tours, VoiceMap offers huge variety

VoiceMap works indoors too, and Version 12 of the app combines insightful content that extends your attention span with an interface that helps you make informed choices about how you spend your time at a growing range of museums and art galleries around the world.

You can also listen with your feet up whenever you like with Virtual Playback. This turns every tour into something you can take in like a podcast or audio book.

Press:
“High-quality self-guided walking tours...Narrated by local experts, they provide insight into corners of the city sometimes overlooked by regular guided tours.”
Lonely Planet

“We may be biased, but could there be anything more helpful than having a journalist in your pocket when touring a new city? How about a historian, a novelist or just a really passionate local? VoiceMap culls city-specific stories from them all and fits them neatly into walking tours.”
New York Times

Makes navigation very easy! I have used a few audio guide apps, and this one has been by far the best experience. In particular, the map feature along with the images of what you should be looking at during each segment of the tour made it much easier to know what you should be looking at.

We could not keep the app working for more than two minutes. It froze, it wouldn't let me pause, then it wouldn't start again. It said I was at the start then said I wasn't. I tried resetting the phone, changing permissions for the app and changing settings in the app itself. In the end, we gave up and read from a pamphlet we picked up at the visitor's center.

Really enjoyed this tour as well as getting lost in Charleston (literally). Had to drive most of the tour because I can't walk long distances. Even so, I was still able to navigate the tour with minimal course corrections... beware of those one way streets. Definitely recommend to anyone looking to learn a little history while getting their steps in. Will be doing more in the future.
