I used to love Manta because of the subscription model. I'd pay a monthly fee and have unlimited access to all their content, it was great. With the introduction of their gem system, they've added another paywall on top of your subscription cost. It's an insult to their subscribers and a really terrible model. Additionally, all/most of the new content I've seen coming out seems to be gem only. I'm finishing up the series I'm already invested in, and then I feel like I'm done with this app.

Once upon a time, I would have given this app a higher rating. Many of the series are quality productions, even if many are also very cliché. However, it really bothers me how many series now cost an additional fee to unlock and read via the purchase of "gems," which are too pricey for my meager budget. This includes many that didn't used to cost extra. It's really frustrating to be asked to pay for something I've essentially already paid for. I'd much rather just pay a higher subscription fee.

I'm actually pretty upset. I've paid monthly for this app for several years now, and now they want you to subscribe for MOST comics and pay extra for access to certain other comics? You can't have both. I chose this app originally because it "was" a monthly subscription and not the pay per episode kind of deal. I'm really saddened by it and will probably end up canceling my membership over it.
