Updated again for latest version - The "unable to save progress on practice test" bug was fixed, though some tests and reading practice are still missing. I still want the ability to toggle Furigana from anywhere in an article back. It really distracts from the article to have to scroll up to toggle, then scroll back down to find where I left off, over and over again. I will still use this app to read news occasionally, but it's not as convenient for my intermediate reading practice anymore.

I don't understand the reason for the recent design change, it was fine before. I continually encounter new issues with this design with few benefits compared to the old one. Now, some words are not able to be translated, the translations don't show which kanji the hiragana corresponds to, the show furigana option is more inconvenient to activate, etc. An option to revert back would be great.

Amazing app for learning Japanese through immersion. The articles aren't geared towards complete beginners, so you'll need some knowledge of the Japanese language. There's plenty of articles for people with an intermediate or advanced knowledge of the language, so don't let "Easy Japanese" deter you. The app makes it easy to find the definition of a word, so you'll learn as you read. Videos that accompany articles help listening skills. Tip: Read the articles out loud to yourself or others.

Excellent resource for studying vocabulary/reading skills using real sources from Japan. However, highlighting words (to define them) can be so frustrating at times as the selected characters often become deselected when I'm trying to adjust the highlighted portion. This is a big problem for me as this is my main way of learning what unknown words in the news sources mean.

It is a great all in one app for studying. I will read articles a little everyday and add a word or two to my list, but I use the dictionary as a window when using other apps because the writing pad works perfectly with an S Pen to quickly write words and Kanji to add to lists. Better than most dedicated dictionaries. Also, the JPLT tests are fantastic! My only complaint is that I cannot sync notebooks, tests, etc, between my phone and tablet. Even with Premium, which I highly recommend you buy

Vocabulary is my primary struggle point in Japanese. Most common phrases and words have been ingrained in my head for years, but expanding my vocabulary to something useful has always been difficult. This app cleverly hides vocabulary content within short, coincide articles that I can mostly translate on my own. If there is a word I don't know, I end up learning it naturally the more I use the app. As a final point, the articles are recent, and relevant, so they remain interesting. 5 ⭐ easily.

I used this in college when I was taking Japanese classes and I loved it. Now, I'm only allowed "10" reads a day which is ridiculously annoying. They're hiding behind a pay wall and in the worst of ways. I can deal with the ads, not having access to more JLPT tests, and other Pay-to-Use features, but this is ridiculous. Taking JLPT tests in landscape mode is frustrating since the ads on the bottom border prevent me from seeing the questions/answers so I have to turn it into portrait mode now.

I gave this app a fair chance four years ago, and I rated it 3 stars because you couldn't simply tap words to see a definition/translation. They promised that the feature was coming. After all this time, they still haven't added it. Additionally, trying to highlight individual words is impossible. The cursor bounces all over the place and highlights half the article every time I try. I'm honestly baffled by the high reviews.

The best way to learn a new language is by reading actual material. Just material being that it's contemporary news allows the reader to better understand a new language. You are able to interact with the various vocabulary and look at examples in order to better assimilate and understand a new language. Also you're able to use the flashcard feature to learn new vocabulary. I highly recommend this app. I wish it existed 20 years ago when I was learning Japanese and was an undergraduate student.

A really great way to practice Japanese. It feels a lot better to read an article and get something extra out of your practice, rather than, "John bought seven handbags at the convenience store." The resources to look up kanji, kana particles, or full phrases are all integrated and super easy to use. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is learning Japanese and is getting sick of repeating the same sentences. It's a really refreshing way to practice.
