Do you see what the problem in dating is?
All dating apps today think that appearances matter the most in dating.
In fact, most people would agree that’s the case.
But is it?
There are so many factors that we don’t see while we are swiping solely based on an image.
Tell me:
If you don’t drink or smoke, can you date someone who does?
If you are a Michelin star chef, can you date someone who just cooks noodles?
If you support Manchester United, can you date someone who supports Liverpool?
If you are 22 years old, can you date someone who is 44?
But if you’re straight like me, can you date someone who is gay, or lesbian?
These are maybes for us, but deal-breakers for others.
After all, a selfie can never tell you so much.
On most dating apps, it doesn’t matter:
- what your name is
- what you wrote in your bio
- if you like to read books
- or, if your favorite song is “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus
I daresay, they are as useful as a man’s nipples.
Why?
Because NO ONE reads those!
Let’s change that, shall we?
We created a dating app called Aijou in 2 days, and a week of brainstorming.
- Names are shortened (Hannah Miles -> HM)
- Photo stays blurred, until you get matched with that person
- You only get to select photo live from camera
- Height / weight isn’t judged
- DOB isn't revealed, but age difference is showed as "slightly older", "much older"
- Gender-inclusive
- Sexual orientation inclusive
- People first, food and religion preferences second
