2024-09-27 | Bill Steiner | I just received the new Google TV Streamer (4K) and installed WireGuard. It installed without an issue but when I attempted to add tunnels it froze and after 20 or so seconds kicked me back to the main screen. I have done this install on over 8 of my Chromecast units and had no problem but it seems to be a bug as it relates to the new TV Streamer. Other wise I would have given it 5 stars. I tried clearing cash and reinstalling to no avail.
2024-07-31 | Francesco Bucciantini | Wire guard changed the VPN world for the best. It's a very good and reliable protocol and I've never had issues with the official client on Android. The kill switch works and it's not leaking anything (including DNS). It constantly tries to reconnect automatically and it keeps trying until the tunnel is re-established which is incredibly useful while I'm driving and going through tunnels. Hopefully one day wire guard will be integrated directly in Android, but until then this app will suffice.
2024-06-18 | João Silva | Apparently traffic is not routed when using as hotspot. Used the phone for usb tethering. A network that is accessible on the phone isn't available on the tethered device but it's available on phone. I would guess that have something to do on how the routing tables are handled (or not handled in this case) I really don't know if it's something that can be handled at application level.
2024-02-03 | oncanyon | The app works well, the setup is easy and the tunnel is set up properly. I would wish for one more feature, though: an in-built applock that protects the app from opening when giving the phone to someone else (you don't really want another person holding your phone being able to connect to your vpn with one click). This could alternatively also just be a pattern
2024-01-25 | Jacob Derington | Wireguard itself is great. However the android app is lacking. There's no way to have it connect automatically depending on WiFi or whatever. The only way to accomplish that is with tasker but tasker has trouble turning it on randomly. Also the notification pull down tile often says that wireguard is "unavailable" so there is literally no reliable way to quickly turn the VPN on or off.
2023-05-02 | Kenric Tam | App was working well about 1 to 2 months ago. Did not have a problem maintaining a connection from my phone to my home wire guard VPN server. But now it seems like. Periodically and randomly it will just lose the connection and I have to toggle it off and then back on again to reestablish. Logs show the app trying to reinitiate a handshake but waiting 5 seconds and trying again because it does not receive a response.
2022-05-02 | The Cupcake ツ | Simply THE BEST Client to use WireGuard Configs, etc. It's stable and it does work well without using Battery or RAM much. The only improvements it needs are: 1. To show "notifications" whenever the VPN connection is connected. 2. Ability to add "spaces/wider range of characters" when choosing name for each connection.
2021-09-03 | Darryl Parker | Not bad but needs work I find that it needs a list for excluded networks. At home it seems like a waste to have it running all the time. Kills phone battery quickly. Other than the lack of of options this is an amazing way to access your home from anywhere. If you have a good firewall at home it is a perfect vpn for UN trusted wifi. Keep updating and my reviews will get better.
2021-08-24 | Brett | A little difficult to setup for novices, but worth the time it takes to do it. Robust, but lightweight. For those complaining about how it's killing itself off on Android, please, RTM, spend time searching, etc. THIS IS NOT A WIREGUARD PROBLEM. Other VPN's "stay alive" because they are very chatty, constantly sending receiving packets so they don't die. This is one of the beautiful things about WG. it's NOT chatty. It ONLY sends packets when it needs to. So, if you aren't actively sending something, the tunnel closes. This is NOT from wireguard itself. HOWEVER - if you spent a few minutes searching, you would find that WG has a need little "keep alive" feature that is not on by default. Turn it on and the client will keep the connection alive. Wireguard also deals with split DNS. Please, google, watch some videos. It hasn't had the time that things like OpenVPN have had to polish itself up. If you want shiny, please seek out another VPN. Not trying to turn anyone away, by any means, WG is very much worth the time it takes to learn, set up, and implement.
2021-06-09 | Matthew Dunnington | I kind this VPN from the beginning but the Android client end, ie this app, is TOO simple. And without a rooted phone it is difficult to troubleshoot any connection problems, like the latest version of this app which will not connect on Android 10 with MetroPCS data service. It kills ALL data like ssh session one will be on if setting up their own VPN server. The previous builds never had this problem. |
