2024-11-27 | Rayna Thompson | Ignore my previous review. I have become more interested in sports, after reading various articles this past year in the Athletic (as part of my all access NYT sub). There was such a well-written one today, that I'm reinstalling the app itself. I am not a big sports fan, but the writing in this publication is excellent: informative, engaging, intelligent, and inspiring. Thank you for a quality read.
2024-11-25 | Peter Arnberg | The app design is excellent and usually presents the content extremely well. But the maintenance and support is lacking, to the point I've had to come here to report my problems. For me article\page loading has become very slow, sometimes completely stuck. I've seen others complain about persistent bugs and broken features that just don't get attention. It's a shame that the app isn't better maintained because the content is great. Please add an in-app bug reporting interface!
2024-11-21 | Michael Janiszewski | Articles don't display properly. The first couple of paragraphs are visible, but then the article will go blank once I have to scroll down. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but it hasn't helped. Very frustrating. Will probably cancel prior to the next billing period.
2024-11-20 | Sean Manning | I have two sides to the Athletic. The first is the site, which generally offers wonderful content and keeps the stories interesting if not a little repetitive. The second is the app itself. My app broke, so stories don't load completely. Submitted a bug, got some of the most epically useless support I've ever received. My account is through the NYT, but they refused to help with an app issue because I pay... The NYT. I just can't with this rubbish.
2024-10-18 | Jorden Harvey | The Athletic has fallen into the same trap as most modern sports writing where "The Narrative," power rankings and being beholden to major market teams are paramount. Ken Rosenthal's "Sinister Sling" article is just the latest example of an absolute hit piece on a player he doesn't like and shows exactly how low The Athletic has sunk as it tries to become ESPN+ for so-called "intellectuals."
2024-10-12 | Chris D'Agosto | I have enjoyed using the app. However, recently the homepage is not loading, just get the spinning wheel forever. Other features work as expected. Other users have reported the same issue. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app on my Pixel 8A but the issue persists. Update 10/12 - After contacting customer support the issue has been fixed. Thanks!
2024-10-04 | Ryan Cerepak | I haven't been able to use saved stories for over a year. The app just shows "saved stories will appear here". I think it's an Athletic coding issue as I just get blank white screens on 2 different PCs and a Chromebook each on 3 different web browsers. I've tried going through customer service but no fix yet. Trying here to maybe get in touch with tech support directly to even try and clear out my saved stories/account and start over.
2024-10-01 | Ken Martin | Used to be a great app but recently there are a couple of issues that have led me to uninstall and use the website instead. 1. Got rid of the ability to swipe between teams at the top. 2. Including ads in an app that I pay a fee to access, which is absolutely ridiculous. I'll use a browser with ad block instead, thanks. The other thing they really need to improve is they need to add PGA leaderboards. Unbelievable they have PGA coverage but not a leaderboard!
2024-09-30 | Jon Stump | Prior to the NYT takeover, there were insiders for every team I follow. Since then, the overall coverage has gone downhill significantly. So much so, I won't renew my subscription. Right now, it's hockey preseason and we have 2 beat writers for my team. In the past 10 days, the only articles were about a travel failure and an Emmy award. Zero coverage of training camp or games. What's the point of paying for this when I'd rather go somewhere else for my news and coverage?
2024-08-26 | Zeca Ferraz | I'm a big fan of The Athletic, especially the football (soccer) content, which I enjoy a lot. I listen to most of their podcasts, but I've had a tough time doing so on the website. The podcasts often stop randomly, forcing me to refresh the page and manually find where I left off. It's frustrating and disrupts the experience. The podcasts work better on Spotify, but there I have to deal with ads since it's not synced with my Athletic account. If this issue could be fixed, that would be great. |
