| 2024-10-04 |  | | Chinese here, just wanna clarify a bit. Yes WeChat has awful signup and login experience, but in some sense it's a feature rather than a bug. In China it's not only a messaging app but also the primary payment method which means login/signup security matter a lot. Most people use it at least once per day and just stay logged once registered. In general it's not Tencent's fault to design it this way, but it is their fault to publish such a thing to Google Play without any adaptations. |

It requires you to contact a friend and have them verify you which can be annoying and I wish there was a feature where you can verify yourself without friends or just individually. Good app nonetheless |

For example, posting a picture on the time capsule using an android phone means the picture will immediately be converted to a video in which all that is happening is just zooming further and further into the picture. | 2022-06-28 |  | | Phantom notifications on Google pixel. I cannot express the rage I feel since this is my only method of communicating with my brother. I don't know what's causing it, but as soon as I uninstall this app, it stops. I have tried everything I can with the settings. It's absolutely infuriating. It starts randomly and sometimes will be so bad that it's every 10 seconds. I restart and it stops for a bit but always ends up starting again eventually. I regularly uninstall for periods of time. |
| 2022-02-12 |  | | Unfortunately it the best way to communicate with people in China. Works fine most of the time. Has many good functions, similar to Facebook but less shareable. The worst problem is that often it tries to interrupt and override other apps while they're in use to the point where I've had to uninstall it several times due to it's annoying pinging. But if you set "do not disturb" and notification restrictions high it becomes tolerable and has good video calling capabilities. |
| 2022-01-16 |  | | The app logged me out by itself and then when I tried to log in again it said I had used an unauthorized plug-in or emulator - which I had not. I've only ever used the official app from Play Store on my Android phone. So then it has some instructions on how to unblock my account by texting a verification string to some number, except the instructions are wrong and I need to search Reddit to find out what to send! (You're not supposed to include the word "Message", even though it told me to send exactly that.) Finally I'm past that step and it wants me to get a friend to re-verify my account and provides more incorrect instructions about what he's supposed to do, as there is no option to re-verify. But finally we figure out that he can instead choose to unfreeze a friend, but then his Wechat wants him to verify a linked bank account, except he has never linked a bank account to his WeChat account, nor would we ever want to do that. We are not in China! So we gave up. This is a junk app. On top of all that, it is a privacy nightmare. It reads your contact list and won't run without it. Only special Android builds with privacy protection will keep your contacts private when using this app. It reads your sensors, list of installed applications, phone identities, microphone, and clipboard without asking for permission. This app plays its incoming message notification sounds through Android's multimedia sound channel instead of the notification channel, which means the sounds aren't controlled by the normal Android ringer & notification volume control, and it plays sounds even when the phone is in Do Not Disturb mode. The app does have its own Do Not Disturb mode, but it's not as flexible as what's built into Android. |

Very intrusive and annoying. 2016: Lots of my friends use it since they're from China mostly. Ali the fox and other emoji are fun. I like their expressions and interface is smooth |

You'd think that would work but no, it says it's invalid, despite the fact that my friend had JUST sent it to me before I received the invalid message. If I manage to add my friend from China without issues, I'll change my rating. |
| 2021-07-18 |  | | Really bad app, lame programming, bad logic, constant hangs, constant security issues, constant hassles, locks account if you don't use it often, says it detected unusual activity on your account and asks for friend's information to unblock your account, but you can't contact your friends because you can't log in, so you have to call them or use another app. Why bother with this app if you have to have another one anyway? I switched to LINE, it works great. |

It needs the ability to silence the contacts individually. 3. Messages won't send as soon as I release the button, I have to manually resend almost every single one of my messages longer than 10 seconds. Please fix, and then I'll fix my rating. Thanks." |
