Jewish laws and customs

The interactive timeline presents Israel's history and heritage in a variety of areas, from the creation of the world to our days. A click on any topic in the timeline will open a window with a brief explanation and links to additional sources. The application combines the history of the Jewish people along with the world's, Jewish demography, immigration, empires, periods, historical figures, leaders, literature, and languages. Combining the different subjects and including both "traditional" and "secular" topics, allows the user to see the whole picture.
 
Jewish history is the history of the Jews, and their religion and culture, as it developed and interacted with other peoples, religions, and cultures. Although Judaism as a religion first appears in Greek records during the Hellenistic period and the earliest mention of Israel is inscribed on the Merneptah Stele dated 1213–1203 BCE, religious literature tells the story of Israelites going back at least as far as c. 1500 BCE.
 
Laws and customs of the Land of Israel in Judaism are those Jewish laws that apply only to the Land of Israel. These include the commandments dependent on the Land as well as various customs.
 
 Laws that were in force at the time of the Temple in Jerusalem and in connection with the Temple service. These relate to the Paschal lamb during the Passover festival, the bringing of the Firstfruits to Jerusalem, the tri-annual pilgrimage to Jerusalem; the test applied to the wife suspected of faithlessness. all the sacrifices, and the priestly Levitical services.   Laws in connection with Jewish civil and military government, like those relating to the king, to covenants with foreign countries, to take the census, and to military affairs.
