St Therese Church Kandanvilai

The Kandanvilai Church, which is a century old, is located in the village of Kandanvilai in the district of Kanyakumari in southern Tamil Nadu, India. This church is dedicated to St. Therese of the Child Jesus and was established as the first church dedicated to her after she was beatified in 1923.

In the early days, the Kandanvilai parish functioned under the Kollam Diocese of Kerala State. Later, Kanyakumari district in South Tamil Nadu was merged into the Kottar Diocese. Kandanvilai parish is notable for pioneering the Diocese in introducing a body called, "Pangu Arutpani Peravai" for the efficient management of church affairs and resources.

It is noteworthy that more than 50 people from Kandanvilai parish have dedicated their lives to monastic work. Every year, the Kandanvilai Church Festival begins on the last Friday of September and concludes in the first week of October. The Feast of St. Therese of the Child Jesus is celebrated with great solemnity each year on October 1st.
