Before they decided to give us the wireless debugging feature in 12, figuring out how the hell to start ADB when you didn't have a computer available was an Olympian struggle. This allowed you to type "adb tcpip 5555" from another phone so that you could then run all the apps that require adb active on your phone wirhout having to break the bank or humble yourself asking somebody with a computer to do something that then enables you to do all of thoae things youself. Still good for flashing too.
