I've used duolingo off and on since 2015, and recently got back into it in late 2024. I really enjoy the new competitions. I find it motivating to do more. It is hard to progress without having the subscription. It is pretty affordable, especially for a family. My kids are enjoying doing it leisurely. I'm really coupling it with other learning resources. Negative is that I can't figure out why my husband doesn't have the option to the weekly specific friend quest. We would be crushing it.

Like others have stated, since they took away practicing to earn your hearts back up to full capacity, it has become so frustrating to make any sort of progress anymore. Once you lose your hearts for the day you can earn a single one back by practicing, but go back to your regular lesson, make one mistake, and then it's right back to practicing. If they don't change it back to what it was soon, I will just have to erase my 9 year streak and find a different language learning app.

I love Duolingo and I've been using it for years. I am now a Freshman in Highschool and taking a Spanish class, and it is my easiest class because I already know a lot! I love the newest course, piano, because I am already learning how to play songs and the different notes. But the piano course is actually why I give my 4 stars. In regular lessons, you are able to say you can't listen to the question and skip it for an alternative. That is not the case for piano. I wish that was a feature.
