2024-12-20 | Alex C | I love the original board game more than my friends care to play it, so this app is a dream come true! I learned of it through the author's blog on BoardGameGeek and was fascinated by the tightly-integrated design of all the game modes. I especially like the special powerup/themed game modes and wish they were playable over the board too. My only complaint is that it's hard to navigate lots of simultaneous games, but maybe that's a sign I should take a break!
2024-12-14 | Sim Ria | This game would be a 5 for me, but the fact it more than likely takes several minutes to log into the server is killing the experience. Staring at a black screen with one line of text for more than a few seconds seems archaic. I would suggest a little progress bar , so people can watch what is actually happening while they wait. Or the option to change apps while they wait (can they change apps?) Any ways, once the issue is fixed it will definitely get the rating it deserves ❤❤
2024-11-21 | Joshua Cassidy | I guess there was an outage that was causing really weird problems. They resolved it, but they should have someway to communicate that to users. I saw nothing at all and searched many methods. It's a great game, but communication could be better.
2024-11-09 | Ali Hodrien | Absolutely love the real-life version of this game, and delighted by the excellent job they've done in creating this app. Great to play with friends in person or on line, challenges to solve by yourself, and lots of people worldwide to play with too! Great communication re server updates, downtime etc. Some really fun modes get unlocked as you work your way up through the levels - my family loves it, and we can't stop playing!
2024-11-01 | Jessica B | Wow. They went far beyond simply bringing this great word clue game from the table to an app, and did a spectacular job with it! I'm completely hooked! The original (smart, insanely successful) Codenames is at the core, plus really creative options that aren't possible on a table. (Nothing extra to buy.) You're matched up to play with english speakers from all over, and can also do clue puzzles by yourself. Friends (both in-app and in life) may set up games with more flexible rules and chat.
2024-10-30 | A J | I really like this app. We've enjoyed the board games (I even have a codenames shirt). The app is more than I was hoping for. I think they have really done a good job in representing the game and enhancing it. Come play!! It does need more people playing. I just start as many as possible (unless I'm doing pass and play) and don't worry about if people slack off. I hope that I can unlock more pass and play options. Thank you codenames team!
2024-10-30 | Danny Jablonski | It's a well designed app but people take days to take their turn. It ends up feeling more like doing daily busy work than it does playing the game... Edit: In response to the developer comment: the asynchronsity in the app is what I do not like about it! It does not feel fun to have to wait to finish games. Daily tasks/obligations disguised as a game are not fun! I suggest adding the option of setting up faster games with less down time.
2024-10-24 | Quint Wheeler | Amazing implementation. I originally had some frustrations about how it limited how much you could play. but leveling up mostly alleviates that. I still think 24 hours is too long to give people to take a single turn. Too many games time out because players abandon them. 12 hours would be more than enough. And PLEASE give us the ability to use our word collections in regular mission games, and maybe even daily challenges. The base word list really gets old after you've played quite a bit.
2024-10-18 | Stefan Lopuszanski (Stexe) | Great app with cool features but a few huge flaws. Mainly locking so many things behind consumables and XP gating. And then having a lot of XP and rewards tied to frustrating achievements that are overly punishing, especially when trolls can screw up nearly 15 game streaks. Feels like it was going to be a freemium game and they didn't fix the problem areas before making it paid. Still fun, but really annoying if you want access to everything and are a completionist.
2024-10-14 | N V | There was a lot of care put into the UI and the variety of interesting game modes. The only thing the game is missing is blood pressure medication dispensed directly from the phone when my agent fails to guess my clues, which are always perfect and never suffer from cognitive blind spots. Probably. |
