After turning off data, or losing connection, a reminder will be shown is background data is still enabled. Background data allows apps to send information while your device is sleeping. As a work-around, Sync Data Manager provides many types of reminders, including: pop-ups, notifications, and simply opening settings. Don't mind background data on WIFI networks, simply disable all the reminders listed under WIFI.

For Android Versions 4+, background data is no longer a global setting. Instead, Sync Data Manager can be used to automatically enable and disable auto-sync with changes to WIFI or mobile data settings.
