2024-08-16 | John Willems | Poor app for reading the tribune on my phone. The app still doesn't have sections for reading the comics, or for doing the puzzles like the Daily Jumble and sodoku. Can't use the search feature to find these sections either; they are only available when reading the tribune online in a browser. The decreasing quality of the tribune doesn't help. Investigative journalism articles are decreasing in quantity and quality. Editorials are often poorly reasoned and written.
2024-08-16 | Tom Stajmiger | This is the worst newspaper app of any I have used. A couple recent news article on the front page, then just a bunch of old photo links. Major holes in coverage. Searching for things you know are there somewhere is difficult. Truly, just awful. And why? Every other news so works just fine?
2024-05-15 | BAE Productions | I've been a Trib fan for 50+ years, starting with the comics. But the Trib wants me to quit. The price skyrocketed, while everything else was reduced: paper's size, staff, journalistic integrity. Though logged in, the app doesn't let me read some articles. The Jumble and Sudoku (ruined with endless commercials) aren't accessible anymore. Clicking on a front page digital edition article often displays only the 1st few paragraphs. Why? It's a daily disappointment.
2024-05-06 | Roger Steinbach | Good paper with good local coverage. App is fine. Dealing with Chicago Tribune "customer service" is appalling unless you desire stealth charges and price increases, a long and unhelpful automated phone tree with no off ramp to a human, and - ultimately - customer service people who barely speak English. And you will TRY to deal with them often as they sneak in additional costs. I have to take off two stars for the frustration.
2024-04-27 | Dan Weiche | This app is atrocious on Android. I can't count the number of times it opens to just a blank white screen or having it freeze if I click on the annoying "Continue reading" prompt. It often doesn't know if I'm logged in or not. Killing the app or refreshing doesn't work. I literally cannot read an entire article without an issue. I guess I know why the subscription I purchased was deeply discounted. They don't pay the app developers I guess.
2024-02-08 | ghostwriter343 | They make it impossible to cancel a subscription. Don't start. There is no option to cancel online or in the app. You must call a customer service line you have to search for, then call during the daytime when they're open, navigate a menu that won't understand you, sit on hold, talk to a person, and explain why you are cancelling.
2023-09-16 | Ryan O'Donnell | Great writing held back by a weak app. Links to articles don't open in the app. Even some articles you click in the app take you to the browser and don't remain in-app. Most the subscription options in the app are to sports teams or coronavirus. They have environmental section in the Tribune but not in the app. Worst of all the Tribune fills up my email despite constantly trying to unsubscribe from emails and just get push notifications.
2023-04-09 | Matthew Young | App is has been improved over the last year, but my biggest issue still remains. I'm unable to share articles using the share button. When you click on the button, it no longer gives you the option of email, text, or chat sharing. I have a Samsung S21 and the only options I have under sharing are Bluetooth, calendar & nearby share. You can't send articles through typical sharing means...no email, social media or text apps. Please help with this.
2021-12-26 | Elizabeth C | It mostly works, but I noticed a few changes since the sale of the Tribune. I don't know if it's the app or the owners but lifestyle no longer has a link in the enewspaper. Now I need to navigate to world news and page over to the lifestyle section. Also, when I click on an article to read it, the last few lines of the article don't show. I wish thot would fix this. (I'm running Android 12 on Pixel 4)
2021-03-10 | Shaun Currier | Notifications for news alerts don't open the article, just opens the app. No dark mode or reading mode like NY Times or Wash Post apps. Can't set it to push my suburb's news to the top. Sometimes, it's just showing me a sloppy webview of their website, complete with double logo banners and asking me to log in despite already being so. When I subscribed, I felt good supporting local news. But I can't customize notifications to my area or even separate my suburb from others, so I unsubscribed. |
