2024-10-12 | B Ja | App used to be great, but with the recent overhaul it is easier to just use a web browser. Can no longer swipe between articles or open and enlarge the pictures within them. I finally gave up and just uninstalled the standalone app. I'll watch to see if it ever gets some of those features back - then I might consider it again.
2024-10-10 | Luke Myers | Since the update, having an account takes priority over functionality. I don't want an account and I don't want to be asked to make one every single time I open the app. Offline reading is also gone now. What's the point of having this app when its new design is such a turn off? After an additional update, the app now also refuses to respect orientation lock. I lock the phone to portrait mode but the app wants to be in landscape sometimes.
2024-09-28 | Ruby Mae Morgan | As a news agency, the BBC remains one of the most reliable sources worldwide, and that combined with the release of a dark mode are the only reasons this review isn't a single star. It's certainly the only reason I put up with this app. There are several changes to the app that didn't seem to need to happen, and user experience suffers for it. Hopefully, you sort it soon.
2024-09-19 | Anne Kenney | The BBC delivers fantastic worldwide news and I enjoy the coverage that's broader than most news apps. HOWEVER, with its app revision, I think the developers hate left-handed people because anytime I try to use my left hand to scroll and read, it instantly moves the story to the left and shows next story which is completely annoying. So far, I can not figure out how to fix it. I'm unable to adjust it with my scrolling or hand-gesture settings. Yes, I can use my right hand. Must I always?
2024-09-13 | Patrick Sees | This was my favorite news app for over a decade. It's where I went to get my my unbiased US news. As others have stated, the major overhaul to this app has been overwhelmingly terrible. Articles are more difficult to find, the app constantly crashes, and the design layout is terrible. I don't want to change news apps, but I will unless they get rid of this new overhaul and go back to the old design soon.
2024-08-30 | Richard Knight | 8/30/24: A better app than most, but not without significant flaws including no ability to cut-and-past headlines or text and very poor functionality in sharing news stories (with share and save buttons at the top that simply do NOT function). Also headlines are occasionally misleading (though comparably better than AP and Reuters). Finally tally: lose two stars (for existing shortcomings), although this app is still one full star better than any other competing apps.
2024-08-25 | Peter Goundry | A mess! Used to be a straight forward news app. Over the last few years, it has been tampered with to an extent that it is now, in my opinion, a mess. As one scrolls down the opening page, labeled all, you get the same article presented multiple times. Why? So that the developers can keep their jobs? As the old saying goes, "If ain't broke...."
2024-08-20 | Jd H | You changed your app for the worse. I can no longer click on photos to pull them out of the story, which means I also cannot enlarge them. The newspaper itself can't be enlarged either. Why would you guys remove these capabilities??? I'm on Android. -- Aug. 19, 2024 -- still TOTALLY annoyed by this. Can't enlarge articles, can't enlarge text, can't enlarge photos. Grrrrrrr.
2024-08-19 | Brodie Ernenwein (ReignofPIE) | Significantly worse than the old app. Crashes more frequently, runs more slowly, makes it more obnoxious to find what you want, tries to make you login now so they can track you better and sell ads better, just a significant step in the wrong direction. You have to love trying to click on a news article and it just crashes the app instead; why would I have wanted to read that story. Pure trash; moving in the wrong direction. Find a different news app.
2024-08-03 | Derek Ong | Not as good as the old version. The old version, you could select which genre of story interests you. For example, I love the BBC's reporting of Formula One, so I had that as favourite. This option no longer exists. The layout is now more in line with other big news apps, so there is nothing special about this app, and furthermore I find it hard to find stories that interest me. Many sub sections can no longer be read off-line (such as sports including F1). The website is much better. |
